The Tamil Development Department organized an official language workshop seminar at the Collectorate in Coimbatore.
Many government officials participated in it. They were briefed on the official language and its importance on behalf of the Tamil Development Department. District Collector Dr. GS Sameeran, presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector stated that the officers should speak, fill up and sign files in Tamil, the official language, through which the language can be taken to the next generation. He also said that one should be able to speak in the official language at home. It is special if we use the official language in our first name.
The District Level Officers who excelled in the implementation of the Official Language Scheme in 2018-19 were felicitated with prizes and certificates.
Subsequently, prizes were distributed to the students who won the (Tamil)competitions held by the Department of Tamil Development in schools.
The District Collector played a word game with the students, where the Tamil parallel word for the English words was asked for. The district collector put forth the English word and the students guessed the Tamil word for it.
This gesture by the District Collector elated the participants as well as the government officials and teachers there.
District Chief Educational Officer Geetha and others were present on the occasion.
