Coimbatore: A female wild cattle was found dead in the forest within City limits on Wednesday, 16th March.
When the forest guard and anti-poaching police were patrolling the Naickenpalayam forest area under Periyanaickenpalayam forest range in Coimbatore Wednesday evening, found a female wild cow lying dead in the forest area.
The district forest officer and veterinarians were informed about the cow's death. Since it was late at night and there was a wildlife threat, an anatomical examination was conducted on Thursday, under the leadership of Mudumalai Forest Veterinarian Dr. Rajesh Kumar, in the presence of the Assistant Conservator of Forest Division.
The examination revealed that the cattle suffered injuries on both the hind legs, making it impossible for the wild cow to go for grazing for long distances. It has been found that the cow may have died of starving.
However, samples collected from the cattle's body have been sent to the laboratory for testing. The wild cow was buried in a deep pit in the forest area.
