Coimbatore: The vehicles of police officers, politicians parked at first lane has resumed, within days of imposing a ban.
Normalcy is gradually returning at the Coimbatore International Airport after the corona outbreak. A large parking space has been set up in front of the airport entrance, for the passengers’ convenience where about 500 cars can be parked. The first lane, where visitors can drop and pick up passengers is a crucial area, and there was a long standing issue of the politicians and police officers parking their vehicles at random places in this lane, thus causing a hindrance for passengers and visiotrs.
The public was reluctant to question about it as mostly police, government vehicles and vehicles of various political party figures were parked in the area.
The airport management recently took a drastic step to find a permanent solution and imposed a ban on parking vehicles of government department vehicles, including police, and vehicles of political party figures in the first lane. It has also been advised to impose penalties on violations. This move by the airport management had drastically reduced the parking of police and government vehicles in front of the airport entrance, but within days, the vehicle parking has yet resumed, highly questioning the self discipline of the 'responsible' lot.
Self-discipline is the only solution!
Coimbatore airport officials said, "Only vehicles of those who arrive to drop off passengers and pick up passengers are allowed to park near the entrance to the airport.”
“No one is allowed to park vehicles in the area for long periods of time." They added that however, several government department vehicles, including police, politicians and vehicles were parked at random in the area. This caused a lot of inconvenience to other passengers, despite a separate parking space allotted for the government department officials.
"Therefore, all government department vehicles including police and vehicles of political party figures should be parked only in the allotted space.
If the rule is violated, a fine will be imposed and the scheme has now been implemented."
However, parking erratically is a recurring story. People are following the road traffic rules in Mizoram, while the situation here is awry.
The Airport authorities stated that, every motorist should respect the rules of road traffic with self-discipline to make Tamil Nadu like Mizoram.
"Avoid parking at random places and arguing when liable to pay fines and parking should be done only in reserved places such as parking so as not to disturb other passengers.
All top government officials, including the police, politicians should advise their drivers." stated the officers.
