An IT employee, Vani was swindled of Rs 1.25 lakhs by fraudsters online promising to deliver to her address computer spare parts, and the Coimbatore Cybercrime officers are investigating the incident
Coimbatore: An IT employee was swindled of Rs 1.25 lakhs by fraudsters online promising to deliver to her address computer spare parts.
Vani is a native of the Vellalore area in Chettipalayam Road in Coimbatore and works for an IT company. Reportedly, Vani was looking to purchase computer spare parts and contacted a mobile number listed in one of the search results of a private company.
The people on the other end promised to deliver to her address the required spares if she made a payment of Rs 1.25 lakhs. Vani placed her order and paid the amount through bank transactions in two instalments, but did not receive her order. The mobile number she contacted to check on the order she placed for was switched off.
Vani realized that she had been cheated and lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police. Police have registered a case on the complaint and are investigating.
