Kadeswara Subramaniam seeks public holiday for 'Panguni Uthiram', this year

The Hindu Munnani State President, Kadeswara Subramaniam has requested that the state Government should declare a public holiday or Panguni Uthiram, a ritual widely celebrated by the Hindus, that is to be celebrated tomorrow, 18th March, this year


Coimbatore: The Hindu Munnani State President, Kadeswara Subramaniam has requested that the Government should declare a public holiday or Panguni Uthiram, a ritual widely celebrated by the Hindus, this year falling on March 18th.

The Panguni Uthiram is an exceptional day of ritual for the Hindus, though the star, Uthiram falls in all months. The uthiram nakshatra day in panguni month is celebrated as Panguni Uthiram in which, special abishek, decoration, and pujas are performed to the Tamil Deity, Lord Muruga on the day, with special fasting.

Accordingly, this year Panguni Uthiram will be observed on Friday, 18th of March, 4th of Tamil Month Panguni, at 1.20 am, and Uthara Nakshatra till 1.20 am the next day. The Hindu Munnani state president Kadeswara Subramaniam has demanded that the government declares a holiday on Panguni Uthira Day celebrated by most Hindus.

In a press release here, he said, "Panguni Uthiram is the largest spiritual festival of Hindus. The District Collector of Thoothukudi has declared a local holiday on this auspicious occasion. The Hindu Munnani congratulates him on this."



He added that the weddings of Murugan-Deivanai, Sri Rama-Sita, Madurai Sundareswar-Meenakshi, Srivilliputhur Andal-Rangamannar wedding, Kaliyuga Varadhan Sri Ayyappan Avatar Day and Arjuna's birth in Pancha Pandavas will be celebrated, in hilly terrain areas, on Panguni Uthiram day.

He added that it is customary for Hindus to celebrate this auspicious day throughout Tamil Nadu and appealed to the Government of Tamil Nadu to declare Panguni Uthiram, a festival of worship for the majority of the people, as a state holiday.
