12-14 year-old to get Corbevax for covid at vaccination drive

Coimbatore: The Covid19 vaccinations for children between ages of 12-14 has been brought by the district administration and the drives have begun from 16th March.

With as many as 1.02 lakh doses of vaccination ready to administer for kids of age 12 to 14 year olds, for Covid19, the processes have begun in Coimbatore, on 16th March, Wednesday.

The vaccination for children in the age group of 12 to 14 years have been introduced, the Corbevax, and administration has begun from 16th of March. The Central Health Department has announced that children who have completed 12 years of age can have the vaccine administered.

This scheme is being implemented for the first time for the safety of children. Similarly, booster vaccination is being administered to all those who are over 60 years of age. The health department said there are about 31 lakh people in the 12 to 14-year-old category in Tamil Nadu. Vaccination work started on Wednesday morning across the Coimbatore district.

Corona vaccine is being administered to children in schools and primary health centers. District Health Officer Aruna said, "As far as Coimbatore district is concerned, vaccination of children in the age group of 12 to 14 years has started directly at the schools where they are studying and 1,02,200 doses of vaccines are available for this purpose.”

She added that two committees have been formed. These teams are visiting schools in each block to administer vaccines. In addition, children can be vaccinated at the primary health centers.

The process of corona vaccination in India began on January 16, 2021. The frontline warriors such as doctors, health workers were given priority, followed by vaccination of people in their 60s and those over 45 years of age with co morbidities, following which those who are over the age of 45 were administered the vaccination.

The vaccines were then introduced to people between 18 and 45, followed by vaccinations for children between the ages of 15 and 18 began in January 2022. School and college students received both their doses of vaccines in their educational institutions. Health care, frontline workers and those over 60 years of age with co morbidities who are eligible for the 3rd dose can receive it.
