Anti-corruption force raid home and assets of SP Velumani and his associates in Coimbatore; 58 places under the scanner across TN

The anti-bribery police have been conducting raids at the residences, properties belonging to Ex Minister SP Velumani across TN, over the allegation of disproportionate assets worth Rs.58.23 crores above their income.


Coimbatore: The anti-bribery police have been conducting raids at the residences, assets including properties belonging to Ex-Minister SP Velumani across TN.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police in Tamil Nadu have been conducting raids at 58 places since this morning, 15th March 2022. As of now, 58 locations are said to be raided in 6 districts including Coimbatore and Salem. Raids are being conducted at 8 places in Chennai, 4 in Salem, one each in Namakkal and Krishnagiri districts, 2 in Thirupattur district, 41 in Coimbatore, and one in Kerala.

Former AIADMK minister S P Velumani's house and his associated locations were already raided in August last year. Against the backdrop of this, the anti-bribery department has been checking the AIADMK’s whip, SP Velumani’s house in Coimbatore again since this morning. Further, searches are also being conducted at some other places associated with him.

Former minister Velumani’s, brother Anbarasan, his wife Hemalatha, ‘Namadhu Amma’ magazine publishers Chandrashekhar, construction contractor Chandraprakash, contractors Sundari, Karthik, Vishnuvardhan, Saravanakumar, and 13 others have been booked along with raids held at Maha Ganapati Jewellery, Alayam Gold Jewellery Shop, Constromall Goods Construction Company that have a footprint in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem and Kerala.

Former AIADMK minister S P Velumani and his family are alleged of accumulating Rs.58.23 crore in addition to the assets, the Anti Bribery Department said in the case. They have also been alleged that they have accumulated 3,928% more than its income. It has been reported that Velumani's family toured abroad during his tenure as a Minister and hence the anti-bribery department is investigating whether he has invested money abroad.

Similarly, the residence of Sri Krishna College Chairman Malarvizhi Illam, Principal Executive Officer, 3 Police Officers, Deputy Director's House, Town Panchayat officer are under the scanner. Aso, property owned by Velumani and associates, including a farmhouse in Anaikatti is being raided. The authorities are also conducting raids at the Kerala farmhouse, which was not checked during the last raid.
