City auto drivers petition Collector on banning Rapido two-wheeler taxis

The auto drivers in the district submitted a petition to the District Collector Sameeran demanding a ban on the Rapido Two-wheelers, stating the public were not safe travelling in the two-wheelers

Coimbatore:The auto drivers in the district submitted a petition to the District Collector Sameeran demanding a ban on the Rapido Two-wheelers.

A private two-wheeler taxi called Rapido is currently in high use in the city, which runs two-wheelers, like the cabs, to pick and drop passengers. The district auto drivers have submitted a petition to the Collectorate seeking immediate cancellation of the taxi service as the taxi does not provide proper security to the passengers.

The petitioners said, "Vehicles carrying passengers should have a T-board registration. But the two-wheelers have an Own-board registration. Moreover, many vehicles are operated without insurance, which will cause issues insuring the passengers in case of an accident while travelling in an own-board vehicle".

They alleged that the two-wheeler taxi drivers did not carry licenses, staff uniforms and appealed to the Collector to take steps to ban the service. The petitioner also added that the increase in Rapido two-wheelers has also affected their livelihood as passengers deny taking auto-rickshaws.

The drivers raised slogans in front of the Collectorate pressing their demands.
