Strict measures to prevent crimes against women and children - Coimbatore Police Commissioner Pradip Kumar

City Police Commissioner Pradip Kumar told reporters “The Chief Minister advised that the police should act with the chief duty of public welfare, social harmony and a low crime lifestyle.”

Coimbatore: A consultative meeting was held in Chennai under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin with the participation of collectors, police and forest officials.

Chief Minister MK Stalin gave various suggestions on the steps to be taken for the welfare and security of the people. Returning to Coimbatore after the meeting, City Police Commissioner Pradip Kumar told reporters “The Chief Minister advised that the police should act with the chief duty of public welfare, social harmony and a low crime lifestyle.”

“Accordingly, the police in Coimbatore will take action to act as the people want. Steps are being taken to ensure that people live without fear of caste and religion and with due security and without fear. Steps are being taken to prevent crimes against women and children, drugs and economic crimes. Those involved in sexual offenses against girls are prosecuted under the Pocso Act.”

“The police are taking steps to arrest them and convict the culprits by proving them with relevant evidence and testimony in court. Those involved in rape offenses will also face severe punishment. Currently economic crimes are on the rise. Awareness will be created among the public to prevent it. In Coimbatore, repeat offenders are being arrested under the Goondas law. Last year, 70 people were arrested under the Goondas law.”

He said so far this year 18 people have been arrested under the goondas law. He will continue to be the head of the Special Cell for the Prevention of Religious Conflict in Coimbatore.

If small, minor problems are solved early, incidents like riots and violence will not take place. The establishment of this special unit in other districts like Coimbatore is to be welcomed.

Coimbatore City Police is the first in the state to reach the spot in 2 minutes and 59 seconds if a complaint is received by phone to the Coimbatore City Police Control Room. Modern vehicles have been provided to the Coimbatore Police for this purpose.

Coimbatore is all set to get new constables through the selection process. New police stations are to be built to accommodate the proliferation of apartments. He said the city of Coimbatore would take steps to win the state award for topping e-governance in the coming year.

He informed that the Chief Minister has also directed him to take action to prevent accidents. “Accordingly, we are monitoring the areas where the accidental deaths took place in Coimbatore as a black spot. Additional attention will be paid to prevent further accidents.” The inspector informed.
