A man posing as a customer buying food at a small scale restaurant in Thudiyalur was caught red handed by the public as he tried to flee after snatching a 10 sovereign gold chain from the hotel owner.
Coimbatore: A person who attempted to flee after snatching a gold chain was caught and handed over to the police in Thudiyalur.
Aarusamy of Goundar Mills in Thudiyalur runs a small restaurant near his house. He is accompanied by his wife Leelavathi and his mother who are looking after the small eatery.
Reportedly, Leelavathi was sitting outside the restaurant after work last night. A man on a moterbike who arrived posing as a customer to purchase food snatched the 7 sovereign nuptial chain and the 3 sovereign gold chain around Leelavathi’s neck and tried to escape on a two wheeler.
The alert public in the vicinity noticed the incident and caught hold of the chain snatcher before he could escape. He was handed over to Thudiyalur police.
Investigations revealed that the accused is Pakkiriasamy, (36), of Nagapattinam district, who was staying in Thudiyalur Vellakinaru area of Coimbatore and working for a private company.
The police arrested him and are investigating.
