In the Budget Meeting held for the Coimbatore Corporation environmentalists have demanded that the tax should not be increased this year as the city has faced an impact in the last two years.
Coimbatore: Environmentalists have demanded that the tax should not be increased this year as the city has faced an impact of the covid pandemic, in the last two years.
A demand was made at the budget presentation meeting chaired by the Mayor Kalpana of Coimbatore Corporation on 10th March, Thursday, and in the meeting it was requested not to increase taxes for the year.
All the officials, including Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara were present. Environmentalists participating in the meeting said that the industries in the city were affected in terms of business for two years and that the tax should not be increased this year.
“More attention should be paid to the natural environment. Bio-environmental protection is more important than taking care of beautifying ponds. Therefore, steps should be taken to enhance the green cover on the reserve sites.”
The meeting also sought and suggested frequent environmental surveys, frequent inspection of air, water, and land, to measure the pollution rate, using the data collected.
An official said that the budget will cover all of these as the expenditures on roads, drinking water, canals, and basic amenities required are done using the taxes collected.
