The ‘Pasumai Sengal’ (Green Brick) initiative jointly introduced by the Coimbatore Corporation along with the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore and the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity was incepted on 26th February.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation has announced a ‘Pasumai Sengal’ (Green Brick) campaign to reduce plastic waste dumping.
The people of Coimbatore can now earn by giving the plastic waste to the Pasumai Sengal collection centers set up across the city through Coimbatore Corporation Municipal Corporation (CCMC).
Coimbatore Corporation has launched a ‘Pasumai Sengal’ initiative on February 26 in collaboration with NGO such as Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) and non-profit organization the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity. On Saturdays, people can handover the plastic waste generated to 12 collection centers located in Coimbatore Corporation. Further, the event will be held every week from February 26, 2022, to February 26 next year.
A Coimbatore Municipal Corporation official said, “to make 'green brick', crush, pack and push down dry plastic rubbers in a one or two liter plastic bottle. Less than one litre of bottles or wet recyclable waste is rejected by the authorities. Every green brick weighing approximately 4-5 kg will generate 5 rupees.”
