The Coimbatore Medical College held a rally on World Kidney Day, and gave a detailed explanation on Kidney diseases, stating that 1100 sessions of hemodialysis are done at the hospital per month and 75 patients are treated with Catheter.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Medical College organised a rally on World Kidney Day, highlighting the diseases caused as a result of kidney damage and the treatments done at the CMC for such diseases.
A statement released by the Coimbatore Medical College, stated, “Kidney disease occurs in most people without any symptoms. These diseases can be classified into temporary kidney damage and permanent kidney damage.”
“Temporary kidney damage is caused by snake bites, infections, pain relief pills are taken without a doctor's prescription, septicemia, rat fever, dengue fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.”
“Permanent kidney damage is caused by long-term diabetes, long-term hypertension, certain hereditary ailments, certain types of glomerulonephritis that attack the kidneys, and chronic pain relief medications, which most people do not develop any symptoms of. Symptoms of the disease begin to appear only after 80% loss of activity. Swelling of the limbs may lead to excessive urination at night, blood pressure, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting, fainting, breathing, etc. As the severity of the disease increases, memory damage can lead to seizures.”
“85 to 90% damage to the kidneys can be reduced with prescription pills. It is important for patients to keep sugar and blood pressure under control. The amount of water intake and salt should be reduced as required prescribed by the doctor. Dieting is essential and will suffer an extremely bad anemic situation. Special medicines are essential to control anemia.”
There are chances of bones of the patients getting weakened and the person diagnosed with the condition should take the necessary prescription pills to fix it. They will need a kidney transplant or dialysis treatment at very high severity.”
“Dialysis is performed first by injecting a Catheter into the neck and then attaching two tubes to the hand after the blood vessels mature. A continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis is done through the stomach, while permanent dialysis treatment is carried out for patients with kidney failure.”
“Those who wish to donate kidneys are screened and can undergo a kidney transplant. All the above treatments are done free of cost under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive insurance scheme.”
