A 42-year-old man, in a drunken state, set himself on fire after a dispute with his wife, died despite treatment, and the Madukkarai police are investigating the incident
Coimbatore: A 42-year-old man, who self-immolated himself in a family feud died despite treatment and the Madukkarai police are investigating the incident.
Saravanan, (42), a native from Madukkarai Arivoli Nagar is a building mason was married to Kanimozhi, (29). Reportedly, the cooking gas at home had run out and Saravanan left home to buy diesel for cooking. Kanimozhi, who had waited for her husband for a long time started cooking using firewood.
Saravanan who had returned home ate by 9:30 pm, was drunk, and witnessing Kanimozhi cooking using firewood at the front of the house created a ruckus stating she insulted him.
He then went into the house with a diesel can, locked the door inside, poured diesel over his body and set it on fire. After hearing Saravanan's scream for help, wife Kanimozhi broke down the door with the help of neighbours and went inside.They then put out the fire and he was immediately rescued and taken to the Coimbatore government hospital for treatment.
Saravanan, who was undergoing treatment with 30 percent burns, succumbed to his injuries last night. Madukkarai police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
