Coimbatore: The Singanallur police arrested a former contract worker who posed as food safety officer, raided and fined commercial outlets in the area, and seized his fake identity cards.
Sivakumar, duped himself as a Food Safety Officer visited the commercial outlets in Coimbatore Singanallur and Neelikonampalayam neighbourhoods, raided and fined the outlets for violations and collected money.
He has been collecting fine amounts ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 in each shop.The shop owners who informed the Food Safety Officer Swarnakumar, Singanallur area, was revealed that no officers from the department visited nor fined any of the shops and also directed to inform the next time he visited.
Sivakumar returned to the Sowripalayam and inspected and imposed a fine at a shop. The shop owner informed Swarnakumar and he subsequently informed the Singanallur police.
Investigations revealed that Sivakumar was a truck driver carrying garbage in the corporation on a contract basis and he had been fired from the job for laundering money using the receipts used for imposing fine.
The police then seized his fake ID card and receipt books and registered a case against Sivakumar under two sections and arrested him and jailed him.
