Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Electricity Board imposed a fine of Rs 3,70,000 on a farmer who stole water from Athupollachi using agriculture power connection.
The Coimbatore Electricity Board Special Prevention Committee received a complaint stating that illegal theft of water in the river through agricultural power connection at Athu Pollachi near Pollachi is rife. This was followed by an inspection by a team of Assistant Executive Engineer Senthil Kumar, Assistant Engineer Ram Kumar, and Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer, Special Committee on Prevention of Electricity Theft.
Inspections revealed that Senthil Kumaraswamy was stealing water using the agricultural power connection. The Power Board officials fined Senthil Rs 3,70,000. He has also been ordered to remove the motor used for stealing water from the river.
Officials have cautioned that strict action would be taken against those manipulating the scheme provided for the welfare of the farmers.
