The civil supplies officers seized about 1200 kg of ration rice, a two wheeler during inspection at the Puthuvikai Naicker Amman Kovil Thottam area and arrested two people for smuggling ration rice
Coimbatore:Two people were arrested in Coimbatore by the Civil Supplies Officers during inspection for smuggling 1200 kg of ration rice on Tuesday, 8th March.
Civil supplies officials were conducting a search near The Naicker Amman Temple estate in Puthuvikai.
Civil Supplies CID Pollachi Unit Inspector of Police Gopinath received tip-off at around 2 pm on 8th March, that ration rice is being smuggled. Acting on the tip-off, Sub Inspector Bharat Nehru and the police raided a secluded area near the Naicker Amman Temple Estate at Sundakamuttur Puthuvikai on Coimbatore to Selvapuram Road.
The officers seized about 24 bags of rice, 50 kg each, packed in a white sack, hoarded in the area from two people, Saravanan, (28), son of Sekar of Coimbatore and Sivaperumal, (28), son of Azhagiriswamy of Selvapuram Coimbatore.
The two-wheeler, TVS Excel, TN 37 HP 6365 was also confiscated from them. The investigation revealed that Saravanan and Sivaperumal had been purchasing the ration rice from the public at low prices in Coimbatore and Selvapuram area for the past one month and smuggled it to Kerala for higher profits.
Cases have been registered against the duo and the two are lodged in jail. The cops also seized the vehicle.
