Fire sparks from neighbouring farm land triggered a huge fire outbreak at a coir manufacturing godown in Alanthurai, damaging 10 lakh worth goods in the storage facility
Coimbatore:Fire sparks from neighbouring farm land triggered a huge fire outbreak at a coir manufacturing godown in Alanthurai, damaging 10 lakh worth goods in the premises.
Shanmugapragasam, (50), a native of Nadhegoudanbudur in Coimbatore owns a coir manufacturing plant in the same area. A fire broke out at the manufacturing plant two days ago, destroying items worth Rs 10 lakhs including coconut fibre ropes, coconut trees and three electric motors.
The Thondamuttur Fire Department extinguished the fire and subsequently, the Alanthurai Police registered a case and were investigating the incident. The investigation revealed that Tulsiammal (70), the owner of a plantation near the coir factory, had set fire to waste such as slides and pieces of wood in the garden on the day of the incident. It was then revealed that sparks from it had caught fire at the nearby Shanmugapragasam coir manufacturing factory.
The Alanthurai police have registered a case against Tulsiammal IPC 285, Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter and are investigating.
