Victoria Hall in Coimbatore gets makeover for swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected Councillors

The Victoria Hall in the city's Town Hall is being renovated for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected Councillors.

Coimbatore: The Victoria Hall in Townhall, Coimbatore is being renovated for the oath-taking ceremony and is almost nearing completion with just a day left before the ceremony.

With the significant challenge of not compromising on the heritage of the ancient Victoria Hall which was built during the British Raj, the contractors stated that the Hall will be ready for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected Councillors of Coimbatore.

The renovation process which has been underway for the past 28 days has been speeded up with just a day to go for the ceremony, with the contractor stating that the renovation of the Victoria Hall will be completed on Tuesday, March 1.

The location for the swearing-in ceremony was shifted to the R S Puram Corporation Auditorium initially due to a delay in the renovation process. However, with 96 percent of the work completed, it has been decided that the swearing-in of the Councillors will be held at the Victoria Hall itself.

Addressing the challenges in the renovation being done at the Victoria Hall, the contractor stated, “Since Victoria Hall is a historic place, we are focusing on renovating without sacrificing its ancient nature. The only change made was chairs which have been adapted to this period.

The workers had a major challenge to not lose the ancient quality of the roof, with the summer season being an added challenge.”

The swearing-in ceremony of the elected council members will be held on March 2 at the Victoria Hall.
