The forest department officials caught hold of two people who attempted to hunt wild animals in Sirumugai and are on the hunt for three others who fled upon seeing the foresters.
Coimbatore: The forest department officials caught hold of two people who attempted to hunt wild animals in Sirumugai and are on the hunt for three others who fled upon seeing the foresters.
The forest workers and anti-poaching guards led by forester were patrolling the rural areas adjoining the forest area under Sirumugai Forest Range, Pethikkuttai Division and Pethikkuttai police circuit on 28th February, at around 1.30 am.
The team of forest officers saw an Innova (TN20 AX 8401) vehicle on the road leading to Sathyamangalam to Mettupalayam and tried to stop the vehicle. The forest officials share that they tried to stop the vehicle, but the men fled from the place.
The forest officers chased them through a forest vehicle that was already hidden on the side of the road and in the attempt three fled from the car. The forest workers who tried to chase them could not catch them due to darkness.
The driver of the vehicle, Lakshmanan, (33), son of Kaliappanfrom Omalur in Salem, and Mani, (28), son of Kesavan of Arsipalayam, Salem who was seated in the rear seat of the vehicle were caught and interrogated. The duo confessed that they had come to hunt deer and wild boar.
Subsequently, unlicensed single barrel guns, three bullets hidden were confiscated.
Further, investigations are being done and the forest officials are also on the hunt for the three men who escaped. Action has been taken to produce them before court. A search operation has is on to nab the fugitives.
