Karumathampatti, Karamadai and Madukarai panchayats upgraded to municipalities.
Coimbatore: As a part of the election campaign, the DMK promised to upgrade local bodies. Accordingly, it is planned to upgrade 29 town panchayat into municipalities across Tamil Nadu. The announcement was made in the legislative Assembly yesterday.
Of these, 3 town panchayats in Coimbatore district namely Karumathampatti, Karamadai and Madukkarai have been upgraded as municipalities by the government. This order of the Government has been very well received among the public as the local bodies will be upgraded and will grow symmetrically.
In the Karumathampatti municipality of Coimbatore, the main part of the market is the loom weaving mills, its adjoining panchayats, rice mills and agriculture. The Karumathampatti municipality, located in Somanur, has been completely upgraded in terms of increasing population.
Also, it is to be noted that there is no high school there except the government middle school 5 private colleges and 4 private high schools. Currently, Karumathampatti has been upgraded to a municipal municipality in terms of population as more than 50,000 people live in the area.
The municipality covers an area of 27 sq km, bordering Coimbatore district with 18-ward 169 streets, 10,071 houses as per 2011 census and a population of 35,062.
