A labourer who lived in a house in the Government quarters in Annur near Coimbatore was killed while trying to repair his house roof which had been dilapidated due to rains.
Coimbatore: A labourer who lived in a Government quarters near Coimbatore was killed when the roof of his house collapsed due to rain.
"Chinnan (52) of Adi Dravidar Colony, Pillaiyarpalayam Panchayat near Annur lived with his wife Radhamani (47) and a son and daughter in a portion of the Government quarters. Owing to the heavy rains lashing Annur and its surrounding areas for the past three days, Chinnan's house was already in a state of disrepair with the roof of the house damaged due to heavy rains.
Chinnan, along with his cousin Mahendran (45) tried to repair the roof but it suddenly collapsed leaving Chinnan trapped in the rubble. He died on the spot while Mahendran escaped with just minor injuries. Neighbours rushed Mahendran to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Annur police and the Village Administration Officer, Kalimuthu and other officials rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. Chinnan's body was sent to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for autopsy and police are investigating the tragic incident.
