648 saplings planted in 96 cents of land as part of Coimbatore Corporation's 'Adarvanam' project.
Coimbatore: With expansion of roads in Coimbatore necessitating felling of trees along the roadside, increase of humidity and sparse green cover has been a few of the inevitable consequences.
To counter this, the District Corporation has initiated the ‘Adarvanam’ Project in reserve sites in Coimbatore that have been specially secured for this project.
In the first phase, 648 saplings were planted in 96 cents of approved land at the Emerald Greenfield General Park at Saravanampatty (ward no.28) by the 'Miyawaki' method. Corporation officials have decided to implement the ‘Adarvanam’ Project in 100 reserve sites in the district. Support and sponsorship is expected to be obtained from NGOs and social activists.
Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, Municipal Engineer Lakshmanan, Executive Engineer Gnanavel, Town Planning Officer (Anti- Encroachment) Ravichandran, Assistant Commissioner of Northern Region Annadurai and others were present on the occasion.
