Coimbatore: Based on the complaint lodged, the Anti-Corruption Department is conducting raids in places related to former Minister SP Velumani and that the DMK government has no intention of political vengeance, said Minister EV Velu.

Public Works and Highways Department officials from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode and Karur districts chaired the review meeting at the Coimbatore Nava India SNR Auditorium under the chairmanship of Public Works Minister EV Velu.

Ministers Ramachandran, Vellakoil Saminathan and Kayalvizhi also participated. Later, Minister EV Velu spoke to the reporters at the guest house in the Race Course area.



He said that 230 projects worth Rs. 1585 crore are being carried out in 5 districts including Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiris on behalf of the Public Works Department. He also said that the buildings should be constructed to be of quality standard.

"I've instructed the authorities to inspect the quality of materials including water, soil and cement during the construction work. Steps would be taken to use new construction technology to avoid traffic jams due to frequent landslides on the mountain roads leading to the Nilgiris district.

A four-lane road has been requested to reduce accidents on the road from Karur to Coimbatore. By 2024, steps will be taken to convert the Karur-Coimbatore road into a four-lane green road", said Minister EV Velu.

He said it was the Chief Minister's vision to know the needs of the people and fulfill them, adding that tree planting along the roadsides would be given priority. Action will be taken to obtain no objection certificate from the Forest Department to widen the existing roads in the forest areas. He said the concerned state and central government officials would give permission for this.

He said that he would take steps to meet the Union Railway Minister to get permission for the construction of unfinished bridges for the approval of the Railway Department and added that construction work on the SIHS Colony Railway Bridge has been delayed due to land acquisition problems. Speaking of Former minister SP Velumani and his friends and relatives homes being raided by the anti-corruption police. He said this was not an act of vengeance by the DMK government.
