Water has been released from Aliyar Dam next to Pollachi for the irrigation of 6400 acres of irrigated lands through the Periyanai, Palli Vilangal and Karapatti canals for the Palaya Ayakkattu irrigation and water has been released to Kerala from the dam as per the contract.

Some farmers from areas including Anaimalai and Ramanamudalipudur have been illegally stealing water from the Aliyar dam and selling it through water tankers. Other farmers have been complaining that water is not enough to irrigate areas at the end of the canals especially in the Palaya Ayakkattu area due to water theft. Farmers say water has been released from the Aliyar dam for the Palaya Ayakkattu irrigation.
Some people in various parts of the state are illegally stealing water through motors and selling the water through water tankers. Despite several complaints to public sector officials, no action has reportedly been taken thus far. Farmers urged the district administration to intervene directly and put a halt to the water theft that has been frequently occurring with the help of some officials.
