A gang was arrested for ordering bulk rice for a shop and stealing it in a lorry in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, a gang was arrested for ordering rice in bulk from a rice mill in Erode saying it for a shop and stealing it in a lorry. Police are searching for all who were involved in the theft. They pretended to have a wholesale rice shop in Coimbatore. The gang was arrested for phoning a rice mill in Erode for rice for sale and stealing rice from the lorry. Police are searching for another person in connection with this. The incident has caused a great stir in the Coimbatore region.
Police said, Shanthi (41) is the wife of Ravichandran from Bhavani Kalingarayanpalayam area of Erode district. She runs a rice company called Annalakshmi Modern Rice Mill. Ashraf, 38, son of Abdul Waqaf, of Ayyappa Nagar, Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore, who contacted her a few days ago, said he was running an export company called SM Indik and needed rice. Following this, Shanti loaded 11 1/2 tonnes of Ponni rice by lorry and sent them with her company manager Ranjith. Ashraf had said that he would pay for the rice in the Puthur area of Karumathampatti Muthugavundenpudur.
As it was night Ashraf has asked manager Ranjith to come the next morning and get the money. He also said that he would give the money and take the bundles of rice. Following this, the manager stopped the rice truck there and returned to his hometown. When he went to the parking lot again the next morning, he was shocked to find that the bundles of rice in the truck had disappeared.
Following this, Ashraf did not respond to Ranjith. Following this, Ranjith told his owner Shanthi about the incident. She then lodged a complaint at the Sulur police station. Police, who have registered a case on the complaint, have found and confirmed that the rice bundles were fraudulently ordered and then stolen. Mansur Khan (27), son of Babu from Kallamedu area of Selvapuram, Coimbatore, Saleem (42), son of Abubakar from Mastan Saibu Road, Podanur and Abbas (43), son of Abubakar from Ukkadam Anbu Nagar were arrested and remanded in custody. Police are also searching for Ashraf (38), son of Abdul Waqaf, of Ayyappa Nagar, Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore.
