Coimbatore: Police suddenly raided the inmates of Coimbatore Central Jail for possession of drugs and cell phones.
Amidst constant complaints that inmates in jails in Tamil Nadu were using cell phones liberally and were under the influence of drugs, the police conducted raids in prisons across Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
100 policemen led by Racecourse Inspector Prabhu Das conducted the sudden raid at Coimbatore Central Jail in Coimbatore's Gandhipuram area on the orders of Coimbatore Municipal Police Commissioner, Deepak Damore. The raid was held from 6 am to 8 pm and all the inmates were searched for cell phones and drugs in an intensive search of each of the cells, including the toilets.
No illegal possessions were found and the detainees were also checked to see if they were illegally talking on their cell phones but there were no such records among the inmates. The police raid caused a stir among the inmates of the prison.
