Locals suffer as drinking water gets contaminated by sewage in Karumbukadai area; Urge officials to restore contaminated water pipes
Coimbatore: For the past eight months, locals in Karumbukadai area have been complaining that their drinking water had been contaminated by sewage.
As a result, people in the area are gripped with fear that there could be a risk of health hazards. Over 600 houses on Park Nagar Second Street in the 75th Ward, Cane Shop South Zone, Coimbatore Corporation. Drinking water is distributed to the area once a week by the corporation. Over the past 8 months, laying of pipes for the underground sewerage project at places including Kuniyamuthur and Karumbukkadai was done.
Residents say that after the work was completed, it had become routine for household drinking water to be contaminated with sewage. "Recently, pipes were laid as part of the underground sewerage project in our area. Since then, sewage has contaminateddrinking water distributed to our area.
We have repeatedly complained to the South Zone Corporation officials. But, thus far, no action has been taken. There is a risk of diseases spreading due to this. We are demanding that the Drinking Water Drainage Board officials and Corporation officials identify drinking water pipes contaminated by sewage and restore them immediately," urged localsin Karumbukadia area.
