Traders request permission from Pollachi Sub-Collector for night-time food stalls

Coimbatore: Traders have requested Pollachi Sub-Collector, Thakare Shubham Dnyandeorao to grant them permission to run night-time food stalls.

More than 200 people have set up food push carts on main roads and sidewalks of Pollachi town to continue making their living.

The Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran had imposed various restrictions owing to the spread of Covid-19 in Coimbatore district and hence food push carts were adversely affected. Traders have filed a petition now with the Pollachi Sub-Collector alleging that the livelihood of the traders who sell food in push carts at night has been affected.

As far as food stalls are concerned, business happens only for three hours, mostly from 6 pm to 9 pm. Traders lament that with pushcarts not being allowed, low income groups that were making a living have been hardest hit.

They also urged that the district administration grant them permission to continue to run their food stalls at night.
