Unannounced power shutdown in Coimbatore: Small-scale entrepreneurs suffer greatly

Power outages of 5 to 10 times, 10 minutes ‌ to one hour without any prior notice per day for the last 15 days through each of the substations in Coimbatore district.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Industrial and Micro Entrepreneurs Association has filed a petition seeking action to avoid an unannounced power outage after meeting the Chief Engineer of Power Distribution regarding a power outage lasting from 10 minutes to 1 hour without any prior notice.

Power outages of 5 to 10 times, 10 minutes ‌ to one hour without any prior notice per day for the last 15 days through each of the substations in Coimbatore district.

Small-scale entrepreneurs have been severely affected by the unannounced power outage. Due to this unannounced power outage, the running machines suddenly come to a standstill, the machine becomes contaminated and the tools set for it break, causing severe material damage.

As a result, entrepreneurs are making meager profits as they lose much on material damage.

To protect themselves from severe damage and to protect themselves from unannounced power outages. All substations for power maintenance will be shut down once a month to take action to protect entrepreneurs who suffer huge losses due to unannounced power outages and to provide uninterrupted electricity. District Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Industrial and Small Entrepreneurs Association James, General Secretary Pratap Sekar, Deputy Chairman Karthikeyan, District Secretary of the Ravi have appealed to the Electricity Board, Coimbatore District Power Distribution Chief Engineer David Jebasinghe to withdraw the unannounced power cut.
