Coimbatore: Two youth who stole jewellery from women in Coimbatore for living luxuriously were caught on CCTV. They were detected by CCTV cameras and arrested.
Police recovered 27 sovereigns of jewellery from them. The youth who came in bikes distracted women by pretending to ask for an address, saying they dropped money on the road and in so many other ways. They said, "They wanted to live luxuriously and hence were involved in robbery."
This raised so many questions on how the future of the young generation is going to be. Police said, "Jewellery snatching from women walking alone on the road has been increasing in the city. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Uma, Assistant Commissioner Sukumar has been searching for the culprits. Vijay (24) of GKS Avenue, Vadavalli, Coimbatore and Manikandan (19) of RS Puram, Meenakshi Nagar were arrested. They were found snatching jewellery from women in areas including Kuniyamuthur, Ratnapuri, Saibaba Colony, Kattur and Racecourse. Police arrested them and confiscated 27 sovereigns of gold jewellery from them."
It seems that they have previously been going in vehicles in many places in the suburbs and stealing jewellery. Two persons have been arrested in connection with jewellery theft in Thudiyalur police station jurisdiction. They were released on bail after spending a few months in jail and were again involved in jewellery theft. Upon learning of the police inspection in the suburbs, they began to steal in the city areas. Police tracked down and arrested the suspects with surveillance camera footage of them snatching jewellery from various places.
