Coimbatore: The driver of a water truck has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for killing 4 people.
Jayapal (age 44) is from Ganapathy, Ramakrishnapuram Marappakavunder Road in Coimbatore. He worked as a driver in Gokul Water Supply Company. On August 31, 2009, Ganapathy was driving a water truck on Sanganoor Main Road. As the lorry was speeding, the lorry collided with a public vehicle parked at the Kannappan Nagar bus stop and crashed into a nearby studio.
Among them, Vijaya (37), one and a half year old child Gayatri, Ponnusamy (38) and Sudalai Muthu died at the scene. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against driver Jayapal and lorry owner Sasikumar in the Coimbatore blast case. The trial lasted for 11 years and was adjudicated yesterday. Judge Balu, who heard the case, sentenced Jayapal to two years in prison and truck owner Sasikumar was released.
