Police investigate drunken brawl between two groups near Palladam; Over 20 men arrested
Tirupur: Two groups got into a drunken brawl near Palladam in which more than 30 people allegedly chased and attacked each other in an inebriated state.
Over 30 people consumed alcohol at a TASMAC outlet at Mahalakshmi Nagar, on the Palladam-Kavundampalayam Road in Tirupur District. The outlet is located near the Rayarpalayam and Kavundampalayam SIDCO industrial estates. It is reported that some of the alcohol consumers went to a nearby field, sat down and asked for 'Hans' from another group of inebriated men. An argument erupted between both groups when 'Hans' was refused which further led to an all-out brawl.
Both groups reportedly attacked each other and it is alleged that one man drove his car into the crowd. Sankaralingam of Rayarpalayam, Kannan from Dindigul, Naththam and Manikandan from Jolarpettai sufferered grievous head injuries. The inebriated driver of the car had reportedly fled the scene.
Police officials led by Palladam DSP Vetriselvan were deployed at the spot after locals informed them of the clash between the two inebriated groups.
The injured were rushed to Palladam Government Hospital by the 108 ambulances. They were initially administered first-aid by doctors and then sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.
Police have registered a case in connection with the intense brawl and are conducting an intensive investigation about the whereabouts of the man and his car. Police have also seized 2 two-wheelers which were left unattended at the scene.
