Tirupur: An inebriated police official was arrested for stealing a two-wheeler near Palladam.
Rajesh, a policeman at the Avinashipalayam police station near Palladam in Tirupur district was standing without a uniform in front of the Singanur TASMAC outlet near Palladam on July 30.
A construction worker, Poovarasan, was riding through the same area on his two-wheeler when Rajesh, who was in plain clothes stopped him and threatened him for his RC book and license. When Poovarasan repiled that his RC Book was at home, Rajesh demanded that he leave the two wheeler behind and get his RC book from home. Poocarasan complied and handed over the two-wheeler to Rajesh, walked to Singanur and returned with his RC book.
On reaching the spot where he had been stopped by the policeman, Poovarasan found that both his two-wheeler and the policeman were missing. He became suspicious that something was amiss, and hence lodged a complaint at the Palladam police station. Later, when the Palladam police investigated the complaint, it was found that Rajesh who was on leave had gone to the TASMAC outlet to consume alcohol and made away with Poovarasan's two-wheeler while under the influence of alcohol.
Following the orders of the Tirupur District Police Superintendent, Shashank Sai, Rajesh was arrested by the Palladam police.
