All unlicensed brick kilns in Coimbatore district have been shut down following complaints from public that mineral resources in the surrounding areas were being over-exploited and natural resources were being harmed. It has also been ordered that no one should excavate soil in the area.

Based on the information received by the Periyanaickenpalayam North Deputy Tahsildhar, Saravanakumar that two JCBs and one lorry were excavating soil in the Kalayanurpalanikuttai area of Thadagam Road, Coimbatore District, the North Zone Deputy Tahsildhar, Coimbatore North Tahsildar, Coimbatore North Revenue Commissioner, Veerapandi Grama Niladhari Committee and investigators immediately enquired with those who were involved in the excavation of soil.
The men who had been excavating explained that they were tilling the land for agriculture but since there seemed to be no relevant documents, the three vehicles were seized and taken to Thadagam police station. The police have registered a case against the three drivers who were involved in sand excavation without proper documents.
