Makkal Needhi Maiam's President Kamal Haasan who returned to the city stated that MNM's thanksgiving event has been postponed due to the spread of Coronavirus infections in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi Maiam leader, Kamal Haasan who lost the Coimbatore South constituency assembly elections by a narrow margin of votes briefed the media that thanksgiving celebrations in Coimbatore have been postponed due to the spread of Coronavirus infection in the district.
Kamal Haasan arrived in Coimbatore on Monday evening and participated in various other programs.
He met reporters after meeting the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran and told the media that he had petitioned the District Collector requesting for a Grama Sabha meeting be held in each district in line with Gnadhiji's dreams. He said that these meetings had not taken place after January 2020.
He also told reporters that the petition had also urged for a separate allocation to be announced in the budget for the Gram Sabha meeting. He said he expects the next gram sabha to take place soon and added that the thanksgiving events of MNM had been cancelled because the Government had stipulated that public meetings should not be held. Kamal Haasan also mentioned that he would be visiting a few homes in the city to offer his condolences and would meet the media again later.
