Coimbatore Metro Rail project: 'KGF' welcomes tender floated for Topographical survey works: Request Government to complete all corridors as soon as possible


Coimbatore: Kongu Global Forum(KGF) has welcomed the tender floated for topographical survey works for Coimbatore Metro Rail project.



KGF Director, D NandaKumar said, "Railway Consultancy firm RITES limited, On July 26, has issued E-tender notice in two packages for the Topographical survey work of proposed Metro Rail project in Coimbatore. Estimated cost of works is Rs 29.23 lakhs. Dates for submission of bids is from July 26 till August 3, 2021. Technical bid opening date is August 04, 2021."

"We wholeheartedly welcome this move. Industrial city Coimbatore is one of the fastest developing tier 2 cities.

The cities in which the population is more than 20 lakhs, Metro Rail is considered as the best one under the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). The government should take steps in ensuring the project would be very helpful in reducing the traffic congestion on all the four sides across Coimbatore district.

Even small cities in nearby states have commenced Metro Rail project survey works. The population in Coimbatore district continues to increase each year. Hence it is the need of the hour to start and complete the Metro Rail project(All 5 corridors) as soon as possible."

About Coimbatore Metro Rail Project and Tender Notice

The Coimbatore Metro Rail project consists of 5 corridors, covering a total distance of 144 Kilometres has been proposed and preparation of a detailed project report is underway. The first corridor would cover 26 kilometers between Ukkadam and Kanniyur. Second Corridor would cover 24 kilometers between Ukkadam and Bilichi near karamadai on Mettupalayam road.

Third corridor would cover 42 kilometers between Thaneerpandal on Thadagam road and Karanampettai on Trichy road. Fourth corridor would cover 44 Kilometer between Karunya nagar and Ganeshapuram.

Fifth corridor would cover 8 kilometers between Ukkadam and Vellalore. According to the tender notice, The detailed topographical survey will be done to represent all the visible details of ground using DGPS and total station and auto level along the corridor.
