A total of Rs. 1.10 crore received as CSR funding from 22 private hospitals and industries for free vaccination drive in Coimbatore district
Coimbatore: As many as 22 private hospitals and industries in Coimbatore have come forward to donate a sum of 83.10 lakhs as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund to vaccinate the general public after the State government's announcement to vaccinate public for free using CSR in private hospitals.
According to the District Health Department, eight private hospitals in Coimbatore have contributed vaccine doses to the district administration instead of donating money. Besides, a total of 11 private hospitals and two industries have issued cheques of about Rs. 28.65 lakhs. District Collector, G S Sameeran is awaiting to take a final call on when and to whom the doses are to be administered.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, R Sakkarapani inaugurated the free vaccination drive at PSG Hospitals in the presence of District Collector G S Sameeran and senior officials of the Health Department. A total of Rs. 1.10 crore was received as CSR funding for the free vaccination drive, until Saturday. Covishield vaccine could be administered to 17,560 persons using this funding. The Minister added that 11.20 lakh people have been administered vaccination against Covid-19 thus far, in the district.
