Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran and Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara have also personally inspected the Coimbatore Gandhipuram bus stand area since there was an increase in impact of Covid-19 infection in the city, again. Addressing the media, District Collector Sameeran said, 'The district administration has decided to conduct awareness programs in Coimbatore district from August 2 till 8. Accordingly, various events are to be held including leaflets, awareness plays, memes to create awareness to protect against Covid-19 etc. Similarly, we are going directly to private hospitals and businesses to raise Coronavirus awareness. The new restrictions in Coimbatore district will come into effect from Tuesday. Shops other than essentials will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Restaurants are only allowed for dine-in until only 5 pm and only parcels are allowed beyond that time,' he added.
'Shops other than essentials stores are not allowed to operate on Sundays. Surveillance has been intensified at checkpoints across state borders. Visitors to Coimbatore from other states must undergo Covid-19 testing or have a certificate of being vaccinated with both doses, and only then will be allowed entry. Those who have not undergone a Coronavirus test, will be tested at the border. They will be tracked with their mobile phone number. Globally, though Coronavirus infections are on the decline, people who venture out without face masks are one of the reasons for the recent spread in Coimbatore district, where the population (Sero Prevalence) immunity test is less than 40 percent,' detailed Collector Sameeran.
He further added, 'Vaccination can prevent the spread of Covid-19. Therefore, we have taken immediate steps to control the spread of Coronavirus. The public must also cooperate. We are in the process of locating businesses, temples, streets and public parks in Coimbatore district that are overcrowded and closing them. We are taking drastic measures after repeated warnings. The store will be sealed if it continues to operated beyong stipulated timings and fines will be imposed for violating regulations.'
District Collector Sameeran also stated that Coronavirus testing is underway in key areas including Coimbatore Airport and Railway Station. 'We have informed the District Superintendent of Police to stop the movement of vehicles on the one-way road in Walayar area. They will be sealed immediately. The inspection was carried out to continue testing to upto 9000 at a time when the impact was high in Coimbatore district. Now, more than 10,000 Coronavirus tests are being performed daily, since fresh daily cases are increasing,' added the Collector.
