Coimbatore: Senthilaraju owns a coir factory at a Muslim Kovilpalayam near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district.
The fire started when a coconut tree fell on a power line at the factory where the coir was piled up this afternoon. Workers at the factory saw the blaze and tried to put it out. But as the wind blew hard, the coconut fiber that had been piled up nearby began to burn.
After informing the Pollachi Fire Department, the fire brigade rushed in 3 fire trucks and was engaged in extinguishing the fire for more than 3 hours.
Excessive wind caused smoke from the coconut fiber fire, causing suffocation. Firefighters are also continuing to put out the blaze.
Following this, the Kinathukadavu police arrived at the scene and are investigating the fire.
