Coimbatore: AIADMK MLAs, led by former minister SP Velumani, had come to meet the Coimbatore district collector to file petition.
When the District Collector received the petition sitting down they used harsh words to intimidate the public servant. The government employees union said that the world will know how the AIADMK treated public servants, including the District Collector, when it was in power for the last ten years. They said that there was corruption in everything from the appointment of Anganwadi workers to the appointment of sanitary workers and said AIADMK always hindered civil servants fromperforming their duties.
They further added, "It is because of such anti-people action that the people have rejected the AIADMK regime and chosen the DMK regime. AIADMK MLAs behaving with the same power-hungry attitude without realizing it now will create embarrassment and further alienation from the people. AIADMK MLAs in the presence of former Minister SP Velumani, who is currently the Coimbatore District Collector, spoke in a threatening tone and the action is highly reprehensible. AIADMK MLAs do not from asking but from one's actions. The Coimbatore District Union of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union has strongly condemned the AIADMK legislators for tarnishing the dignity of the District Collector.``
They further added that, "This cannot be ignored as an accidental event and they tend to repeat this in the future. If this is how the district collector is treated then there are fears about the status of ordinary frontline employees. Government employees must carry out programs for the people to work honestly according to the rules of law without being intimidated.
Therefore, action should be taken against the AIADMK MLAs by lodging a complaint with the police by the government employees who were present when the district collector spoke to in an insulting manner. The Coimbatore District Civil Servants Union demands that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should realize the safety of the civil servants and take appropriate action against the concerned AIADMK MLAs."
