Coimbatore: An online farmers' grievance meeting was held with the department officials from 10.30 am to 2 pm at the meeting hall at the Coimbatore District Collectorate.

The meeting was chaired by District Collector GS Sameeran. Arrangements have been made at the respective Regional Agricultural Extension Centers for the farmers of Coimbatore district to submit their demands related to agriculture online.

Farmers visited the Agricultural Extension Centers in their respective areas. Tamil Nadu Farmers Association District President S. Palanisamy said at the meeting, "The district administration should take steps to collect rainwater in unused quarries in Mettupalayam, Karamadai, Sulur, Annur, Kinathukkadavu and Pollachi in Coimbatore district. This will increase the water supply of the district. 50 per cent subsidy on behalf of the Department of Horticulture and Agriculture to provide agricultural equipment without delay to meet the needs of farmers as soon as possible."

All kinds of welfare schemes are available to the farmers in the rural panchayats. But farmers in municipalities and sub-urban areas often have trouble accessing welfare schemes. Further research should be done to make all types of welfare schemes available to sub-urban farmers.
