Kovai Thangam alleges he does not know who Sindhuja was and the case filed against him was due to political reasons
Coimbatore: Kovai Thangam called for a press meet two days before to explain his stance against allegations and cases levelled against his son-in-law by a young woman named Sinduja.
He said that the woman who had said that Kovai Thangam had threatened her and alleged that she is facing life threats from him. In the press meet, Kovai Thangam said that she was doing that due to political reasons and that a false complaint had been lodged against him. He said that he did not know who Sindhuja was.
A woman named Sindhuja filed a petition at the Chennai DGP's office against 3 persons including Kovai Thangam, his son-in-law Arun Prakash and his daughter (Arun Prakash’s wife). She also gave a sensational interview. In it, she said Kovai Thangam and their son-in-law, daughter, were threatening to kill them.
Following this, he met reporters at a press conference on Addis Road in Coimbatore on Thursday.
He said, 'Two days ago, a woman named Sindhuja in Chennai lodged a complaint with the DGP alleging that I have made death threats against her. I do not know who that girl Sindhuja is. I have never seen her face or talked to her on a cell phone. We do not know who she was and moreover, the woman has filed a complaint due to political reasons. I have filed a defamation suit in the Coimbatore court against those who incited the woman. So I have nothing to do with what that woman said.
I come from a very pure background in politics. I have no bad habits and I am a vegetarian and teetotaler. So far I have never betrayed anyone. It made me very sad that the woman mentioned my name. So I have called for this press conference to explain my stand to you. If I had really gone to her house check for the CCTV and if I have spoken to her check her call records. I have petitioned the Coimbatore city police and have filed a petition at COimbatore against the people who have incited the woman to complain against me. My son-in-law and that woman were doing something professional together. For that they are both making a deal together. In this case, the problem is the transaction between them. It has nothing to do with me.'

When asked about the case filed against his son-in-law and three others for attacking someone at the Coimbatore Puliakulam police station he said that his son-in-law will face the case. When reporters asked if he was implying his daughter and son-in-law were at no fault, Kovai Thangam said he was at Chennai for political reason for the past 10 years and he had no idea about what was going on in Coimbatore and what kind of business dealing his son-in-law and daughter had with the woman. He then said he was very honest in personal life and political life and said whoever was at fault must be prosecuted.
