Spate of robberies in Coimbatore; Cash looted from 7 villas in Madukkarai even as residents slept inside
Coimbatore: The recent spate of robberies in Coimbatore has made people reluctant to leave their homes and go out of town. Looting jewellery, goods and cash is fast-becoming a regular routine for the burglars on prowl. In order to prevent this, the police have beefed up security in the city's neighbourhoods through intensive patrols and surveillance operations to allay the fear that has gripped locals.
On Friday, burglars broke into the back door of a house in Maddukarai at around 4 am and stole cash from the wardrobe. In the Coimbatore Madukkarai Market's Sri Ram Vilas area, there are several villas in a row. The burglars made merry in seven such villas on Friday morning.

Ravi Kumar, a lodge owner, Ravichandran, a retired LIC manager, Venkat and a software engineer were sleeping in the bedrooms on the first floor of their homes when the burglars looted cash from their wardrobes which were in the ground floor of all their homes.
The Madukkarai police were informed about the burglary racket. Police and fingerprint experts are continuing to inspect and investigate the homes. Official information on how much money was stolen is not yet known but is estimated to be several lakhs. The audacious nature of the burglaries while residents were sleeping inside the homes has shaken Madukkarai area.
