"Self-help groups will be increased:" TN Minister for Cooperation, I Periasamy

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Minister for Cooperation, I Periasamy stated that self-help groups would be increased and educated youth would be given jobs.

A consultative meeting was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate under the chairmanship of the Tamil Nadu Minister for Cooperation, I Periasamy.

The Minister told reporters that the Coronavirus fund relief had not been released to a handful of people but that it would be disbursed by the end of this month. He mentioned that the Chief Minister had instructed to provide crop loans of Rs. 11,500 crores this year as against last year's crop loans to farmers which were only Rs. 9,500 crores.

The Minister also stated that he had visited the Chintamani Co-operative store and realised that there were vacancies for salesmen and packers in ration shops across Tamil Nadu. He assured that the vacancies in ration shops would be filled soon. He also assured that the Government would be supportive of farmers in every possible way and that the orders of the Chief Minister would be fulfilled by the Cooperation Department to benefit the people.

It has been suggested that the number of self-help groups operating through the Co-operative sector should be increased from 55,000 to 1,00,000. "The self-help group will function better and educated youth will be given job opportunities with transparency," reassured the Minister.

"R Sakkarapani, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies has taken steps to make the family card available immediately to those who do not have a family card. Investigations are underway into irregularities in 4451 agricultural credit societies across Tamil Nadu. The results of the study will be announced on July 31. Neem products will be increased and steps are being taken to make quality seeds available. Rotation of employees who have been in the same Co-operative for a long time will also be done. Under the DMK regime, Co-operative elections will be held regularly," reassured I Periasamy.
