In Pollachi and Valparai areas in the Western Ghats, the water levels in the Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project Dams have increased. Officials have said they plan to release water from the Thirumoorthy Dam for irrigation on August 3, as farmers have demanded that it be opened out for irrigation in the fourth zone.

Water from Parambikulam Dam to Thirumoorthy Dam has been released today through the Kandur Canal. In the first phase, 16 MW power generation has started at Sarkarpathy Power Station.
After power generation, 750 cubic feet of water per second has been released into the Thirumoorthy Dam via the Kandur Canal. Water is expected to reach Thirumoorthy Dam on Saturday morning. Farmers of the fourth zone are overjoyed that water has been released to the Thirumurthy Dam.
