Stir caused as public encroach private estate lands in Valparai.
Coimbatore: There are vast tea estates in Valparai, Coimbatore district in which more than 50,000 people work and live. In the Valparai area on 56 estates all contracted by the government. It is usual for tea estate workers to return to their hometowns after handing over the house to the estate management after retiring from tea estate accommodation.

In the Valparai area, people are building their own houses in places like Valparai, Sholayar Dam, Stanmore, Athupalam and Rotikkadai areas. All land other than this is owned by the estate management. This includes roads and land that belongs to the Government. Places like this have been occupied and inhabited by the general public.

Some people from the Valparai area and some people living in the Stanmore Aathumattam area said that they did not have a house to live in. In the morning the estate management officers came to the area and tried to clear the occupied areas. The estate management plans to inform government officials and hold talks with government officials after the police arrive
