Valparai Forest Department sets up special teams to monitor movement of bear that killed worker in Valparai and seek to trap the bear in a cage


Coimbatore: Mohanraj (36), a worker at the Villoni Estate near Valparai in Coimbatore district was killed by a bear on Wednesday night while returning home. After the autopsy was done at the Valparai Government Hospital, his corpse was handed over to his relatives. Valparai MLA Amul Kandasamy, Co-operative Bank Chairman Valparai V Hameed, DMK City Manager Palpandi and many others including plantation officials offered condolences to the family of Mohanraj.

Following this, a part of the relief amount of Rs. 50,000 was handed over to Mohanraj's relatives on the orders of the Assistant Director of Field, Arokkiyaraj Xavier. The Forest Department has also set up special teams to monitor the movement of bears on the Villoni Estate.

The Forest Department have also set up a cage to trap the bear that has reportedly been roaming in the area. Forest officials are actively monitoring the situation by placing fruits in the cage to lure the bear.
