Pastor who went home on anticipatory bail arrested at night: Stir caused as supporters gather
Coimbatore: The incident, in which a pastor was arrested and jailed in a new case last night as he was returning home on anticipatory bail following a clash at a CSI diocesan executive committee meeting at Bishop Appasamy College two weeks ago, caused a stir at midnight.
The CSI Diocesan Executive Committee Meeting at Coimbatore Race Course Road was held on the 19th July 2021 at Bishop Appasamy College. Then there was a confrontation between the two sides. Attorney Nesa Marilyn, a member of its executive committee, was attacked.
Following this, the Race Course station police filed a case against 15 people, including Pastor Charles Samraj and Wilson Kumar. Attorneys Nesa Marilyn and Amritham were also charged in connection with the complaint made by Secretary Jacob. Pastor Charles Samraj had obtained anticipatory-bail from this case. The Coimbatore Diocesan Executive Committee has announced the dismissal of Pastor Charles Samraj in connection with the clash. The action was taken by the Diocesan Bishop of Coimbatore, Timothy Ravinder.
Charles Samraj's house is located inside the CSI Diocesan campus in the Race Course area. Charles Samraj, who had earlier been granted bail in the case, returned home yesterday. At that time, the internet connections that had been established for children to study at home were disconnected. Similarly he was shocked to find that the CCTV connections in his residential premises were also disconnected.
He then went to Prince Calvin's room, the newly appointed CSI Diocesan Chairman. Then there was a dispute between the two. Charles Samraj took the bank documents and argued. A complaint was also lodged with the Coimbatore Racecourse Police alleging he argued with women working in the office. Following this, Pastor Charles Samraj was arrested at midnight yesterday. A large number of his supporters gathered in front of the Racecourse Police Station on learning of the arrest of Charles Samraj.
Charles Samraj demanded that the Racecourse Police conduct a formal investigation. He also said that when he went to Chairman Prince Calvin's office, he had welcomed him and given him coffee and sat down and talked. He argued that there were no clashes and asked police to take action after analysing the CCTV footage.
