Due to this, more than 700 coconut fibre factories operating in Pollachi have completely stopped production due to moisture in the dry fields. As a result, thousands of workers who depend on the industry have lost their jobs. Manufacturers have suffered huge losses.
"Coconut fibre products produced in Pollachi are exported. At present, due to low foreign export prices, it has become impossible to export. Due to the rise in prices of raw materials, huge losses have been incurred. Production has come to a standstill due to the ongoing rains, causing a loss of about Rs. 500 crores. Therefore, in order to do business without stopping production during the rainy season, we request the Central and State governments to subsidise modern dry fields and revive the industry."
